When you do not need lights

An LED mirror earns its keep where you need light on your face – above a basin, at a dressing area. Everywhere else the lighting is a cost and a cable you do not need. A mirror without lights is cheaper, has nothing to fail, needs no electrician, and can hang on any wall in the house.

Frameless or framed?

Most unlit mirrors we make are frameless: glass, a polished edge and nothing else. You get more glass for the same wall space, it never dates, and in a small bathroom or a narrow hallway it barely registers. The alternative is a slim frame in brushed anodised aluminium, in matt black, matt grey, champagne gold, warm gold or silver – a border rather than a moulding, and the right choice when the mirror needs to hold its own against a busy wall.

The edge

Every frameless mirror has a finished edge, because a raw cut edge is both fragile and sharp. The standard is a polished edge: ground flat and buffed until it is clear. On rectangles and squares you can choose a bevelled edge instead, ground at an angle so it catches the light along the border. Bevelled costs more and reads as more traditional; polished is the plainer, more modern option, and it is the finish on circles and shaped mirrors.

Every shape, unlit

Without lights there is no LED strip to route, so the outline is free: round, rectangular, arched, and the wavy and pebble shapes – where a frame would fight the outline rather than finish it, so those are almost always ordered frameless.

Large mirrors without lights

A frameless full-length mirror is the usual choice at big sizes: without a frame there is no moulding to add weight or width. See large wall mirrors for what is possible up to 200 cm. In theory a mirror half your own height is enough to see yourself head to toe, but in practice we recommend a mirror 140–170 cm tall: the bottom edge 30–40 cm off the floor, which puts the top edge roughly level with the top of the head of the tallest person in the house.

Fixing an unlit mirror

Spread the weight across several fixings. Mirrors with lights come with a mounting kit in the box; for mirrors without lights you order hangers, mirror adhesive or mounting tape as an accessory. In plasterboard, use fixings rated for the weight, and on tiles drill with a tile bit. Mirror adhesive alone is only suitable on a sound, flat, dry wall and is best combined with mechanical fixings on anything heavy. Note that the mounting kit comes with LED mirrors; for an unlit mirror the hangers, adhesive or mounting tape are ordered as an accessory.

Sizes

You choose the exact size on mirrors without lights: set the width and height to the centimetre in the configurator, up to 200 × 200 cm, with round mirrors from 13 to 150 cm across. LED mirrors come in fixed sizes.
