Tinted and antique mirror glass

Most mirrors are clear glass with a silver backing. A decorative mirror changes one of those two things. Bronze mirror glass warms everything it reflects and takes the glare off a bright room. Smoked glass darkens the reflection, which makes a large mirror far less dominant on the wall – choose it as a glass option in the cut to size configurator. Antique mirror glass carries a deliberately aged, mottled backing – it reflects less faithfully and is bought for the surface itself rather than for looking at yourself.

Where tinted glass works

Behind a dining table or a bar, where a clear mirror would double the room and the lighting. Above a fireplace, where a smoked or bronze mirror sits back instead of shouting – see living room mirrors. On a large wall where a clear mirror at the same size would be overwhelming.

What we do not offer

Genuine antique mirrors – old glass in old frames – are a different trade. Our antique finish is new glass with an aged backing, made to order in whatever size you need, which is exactly what an old mirror cannot give you.

Shape as decoration

The other half of this category is outline rather than colour. Arched mirrors, and the wavy, pebble and geometric shapes, are decorative by silhouette alone, in ordinary clear glass. Add an LED version and the outline is drawn onto the wall at night.

Frames

A frame in brushed anodised aluminium is available in five colours – matt black, matt grey, champagne gold, warm gold and silver. It is a slim modern profile rather than a moulding; if you are after a wide wooden or ornate gilt frame, we are not the right maker. A mirror without lights can be cut to your own size in the cut to size configurator – rectangles up to 200 × 200 cm and circles from 13 to 150 cm across.
